Business Need

Our client is a leading healthcare catalog provider who provides off-the-shelf eLearning courses in the areas of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) regulations.

The nearing sunset date of Adobe Flash technology coupled with the emerging trend of training content consumption on various devices required immediate updates to their 400+ courses in just four months. Their training team was at a loss when they discovered that more than 45% of the courses did not have source files and storyboards. Dated content pieces also required updates while bringing consistency across the complete library w.r.t. content, visuals, interactions, and knowledge checks.

KS Solution

Being fully abreast of the potential business disruption due to the sun setting to Adobe Flash, the KS team resolved to work with this customer to sail them through this challenge. Having a well laid out and proven legacy content migration process came in handy while working out the overall solution.

Four Task Forces were created on a mission mode and each one started working in parallel while JIT collaboration ethos at the core. 1. Extract Textual Content using OCR Technologies from course screens and images and quick Storyboards were created. 2. Our proprietary Media Asset Management System was leveraged to extract and tag media to respective courses. Assets were converted in appropriate formats for HTML rendering before tagging into the system 3. Instructional Design Task Force worked with client SMEs to review learning objectives, fill in content gaps, and create new content. 4. Visual Design Task Force in sync with Instructional Design Task Force thoroughly analyzed each of the courses and their SBs and devised a responsive design visual instructional strategy. As an outcome, we standardized a custom Course User Interface and responsive templates for various content type interactions and knowledge checks.

After a detailed analysis of various authoring tools including Storyline, Lectora, and Captivate for true responsive behavior, the client opted for KS’s propriety true responsive HTML5 course engine to author these courses. KS development center in India operated 24×7 in 3 shifts to finish this mission-critical project in a record time of 3.5 months.

Benefits

The client successfully rolled out the complete revamped library by 15th December, 15 days ahead of the Flash Sunset date ensuring zero disruption to their existing client base. Moreover, the client is now in full control of its content. Their internal teams have been trained on how to develop new courses or make updates in KS’s Course Engine. They now have a well-organized media resource library to search and leverage anytime for their future projects.
